Dear StokFella Community,
August marks Women’s Month in South Africa, a time to recognise the contributions women continue to make in shaping communities, our economy and our collective future.
Nowhere is this more evident than in the stokvel community. For generations, women have been at the heart of collective saving, bringing people together, building financial resilience and turning shared goals into something tangible.
For more than 10 years, we have had the privilege of supporting these women-led stokvels (and men) across South Africa.
Over that time, we have seen stokvels evolve. What began as simple savings groups have become sophisticated communities that save, invest, support one another and work towards shared goals.
As stokvels continue to grow, so too must the tools that support them.
At StokFella, we believe technology should make managing a stokvel easier, safer and more transparent. It should remove barriers, reduce administrative burdens and give both members and executives greater confidence in every decision they make.
That belief has guided us as we developed the next generation of platform enhancements for our community.
Today, we are excited to announce new features designed to strengthen trust, improve security and help stokvels make more informed decisions.
One of the most significant improvements is our new FICA verification process. By incorporating facial recognition technology and automated verification, we will dramatically reduce the time it takes to complete verification while maintaining the high standards of security and compliance that stokvels deserve.
But security is only part of the story. Strong stokvels are built on trust, accountability and informed decision-making.
That is why we are introducing
optional affordability checks for existing members and new member applications. This feature will provide executives with additional insights to help them assess applications and make informed decisions about who joins their stokvel, helping groups protect the goals they are working so hard to achieve.
We are equally excited about introducing Profile Status and Group Health Tracker.
For the first time, members will be able to view the overall health of their profiles, while executives and members will gain visibility into the health of their stokvel. These insights will help identify opportunities to strengthen compliance, improve participation and build healthier, more resilient stokvels.
Taken together, these enhancements represent more than a collection of new features. They reflect our commitment to building a platform that empowers stokvels with better information, stronger security and greater transparency.
We know that trust is earned through consistent action, reliable systems and a willingness to continuously improve.
These new features are another step forward in our mission to modernise and protect the stokvel movement while ensuring that the values that have always made stokvels successful- community, accountability and collective progress- remain at the centre of everything we do.
Whether you are a long-standing executive, a new member or a group considering joining StokFella for the first time, these enhancements have been built with you in mind.
The future of stokvels just keeps getting brighter.
Yours in collective progress,
Tshepo Moloi
